Château des Annibals

A Historic Estate in Provence Verte
In the hills of Provence Verte near Brignoles, Château des Annibals is a historic estate whose vineyards reflect centuries of agriculture on the Coteaux Varois en Provence plateau. The vineyards lie along the route of the ancient Via Aurelia and are surrounded by traces of Roman settlements, while the estate’s vaulted cellar dates back to the 12th century. Together, these elements reflect the long agricultural history of this part of Provence.
The People
Today, the domaine is led by Nathalie De Wuf Coquelle and her husband Henri de Wulf, who purchased the property in 2001 and have guided its next chapter with a focus on organic farming and careful vineyard work. Working with a small, experienced team, they farm roughly forty hectares of vines across small parcels typical of historic Provençal agriculture, producing wines that reflect both the heritage of Provence and the distinct character of the Annibals terroir.
Farming and Winemaking
Respect for the land sits at the heart of their philosophy. The estate is farmed organically, with careful attention to biodiversity and the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. In the cellar, the approach favors precision and restraint, allowing the freshness and character of Provence to speak clearly through the wines.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Annibals, and the elephant that appears on the labels, recalls the long-standing legend that Hannibal and his elephants once passed through this region on their march toward Rome. Like the landscape that surrounds the estate, the story serves as a reminder that this region has been part of Mediterranean culture and agriculture for millennia.
